Men's Volleyball, Softball Highlight CEC Champions of Character Week Celebration

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson University Community Engagement Committee is sponsoring "Champions of Character Week" to celebrate the University's values of Community, Learning, Integrity and Excellence. As part of the week's events, the group will conduct two spirit events at men's volleyball and softball games.

The week kicks off with the NRHH Blood Drive entitled "Be a champion for those in need," on Monday from 12:00 p.m., to 7:00 p.m., in the Rockland Banquet Room.

On Tuesday, the CEC will be sponsoring a Faculty/Staff Spirit Night prior the men's volleyball game versus Philadelphia Biblical at 7:00 p.m., inside Owings Mills Gymnasium. Beginning at 6:00 p.m., the CEC will be serving dinner for faculty and staff in the Caves Commuter Lounge and then encouraging everyone to stay for the game against the Crimson Eagles.

The men's volleyball team is currently 14-9 this season and has won four-straight, including a 3-2 victory over No. 11 Vassar on Saturday which marked the team's first-ever victory over a ranked opponent.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Biblical has won seven-straight with back-to-back victories against No. 15 Kean and No. 13 Elmira.

Stevenson won the first meeting between the two teams 3-0 back on March 7.

The CEC will conclude the week with Softball Spirit Day on Friday as the Mustangs host a doubleheader against defending CAC champion Salisbury beginning at 3:00 p.m. There will be free food, t-shirts and giveaways with shuttles leaving from Ratcliffe Center at 3:30 p.m.

Home games are played at Weinberg-Fine Stadium located at the Jewish Community Center in Owings Mills. Directions can be found here.

The softball team is currently 8-10 this season and has won four of its last five. The Mustangs posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in school history in 2010 and 2011 and is led by first-year head coach and member of the Canadian national team, Joey Lye.

The Sea Gulls have won seven-straight and are currently ranked at No. 18 in the NFCA Division III Top 25.

At every event during Champions of Character Week, fans can enter into a raffle for a MUSTANG SPIRIT Basket valued at $170. Attendance at each event gives fans another chance to win.

In addition to men's volleyball and softball, the 19th-ranked Stevenson women's lacrosse team will also be in action on Wednesday when the Mustangs host a CAC contest with Wesley at Mustang Stadium beginning at 3:00 p.m.
