KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Stevenson University women's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Classic hosted by Texas A&M Kingsville. The Mustangs swept Principia 5-0 to open the day, then were blanked by the host Javelinas.
Against Principia, senior Lauren Weaver and sophomore Katie Leftridge were 21-14, 21-9 winners at No. 1, while sophomore Darian Hileman and freshman Jessi Freeman posted a 21-9, 21-13 win at No. 2. Sophomore Trang Christensen and freshman Lizi Cudal were victorious at No. 3 by scores of 21-11, 21-16.
Sophomores Victoria Prokic and Julie Nightwine won in the closest match against Principia, winning 21-17, 21-17 at No. 4, while senior Katie McGuire and freshman Sarah Riggin won 21-15, 21-9 at No. 5. In an exhibition match, sophomore Emily Castro and freshman Rysleigh Reeves prevailed 21-17, 21-13.
Against Texas A&M Kingsville, the hosts took all five matches in straight sets. Weaver and Leftridge dropped a 21-16 decision in the first set at No. 1 before falling in the second set 21-8.
Stevenson rounds out play in the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Classic Saturday, facing Missouri Baptist at noon and Huntingdon at 3:00 pm.
