Mustangs Drop 2 at Keystone

LaPlume, PA.-

Game 1 of the day pitted 5-1 senior Gary Sanders vs 5-1 Yadiel Lanzo in a match up to help determine home field advantage for the playoffs. Today, Lanzo and the Giants got the upper hand.  Sanders pitched 6 innings allow 5 ER, with 5 K's, but Lanzo was better as the Mustangs dropped the game 9-2. Offensively, freshman John Cummings was 1-3 with the 2 RBI's in the game as he drove a single to right center in the 2nd inning which gave VJC the lead. However, after a couple of defensive miscues, the Mustangs fell behind and couldn't battle back.

Game 2 turned out to be a gem, as Villa threw junior Buddy Breidenbaugh up against Brett Repard.  Keystone scored a lone run in the 3rd and kept Villa at bay until sophomore Griffin Stewart led off the top of the 7th with a towering homerun to left field to tie it.  The game remained tied until the bottom of the 9th, and with 1 out, the Giants executed a safety squeeze as the baseball stopped on the chalk down the first base line for the victory.  Breidenbaugh pitched 8.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs with 5 K's.  Offensively, Stewart was the only Mustang with a multi hit game as he finished 2-4 with an RBI.  The Mustangs are back in action Monday vs Salisbury for 1 pm twinbill.  The Mustangs will then travel to Keystone for the conference playoffs next Friday and Saturday.
