Villa Drops final two home games

Owings Mills, MD.-

Villa loses to the University of Mary Washington 4-2 in game one which turned out to be a pitching duel between UMW Nate Hartman, and VJC's Chris Hayden.  Sophomore Hayden pitched 6 innings allowing just 2 ER, but left down 3-2.  The Mustangs just couldn't get much going against Hartman as he scattered 7 hits over 7 innings.  Offensively, junior Jimmy Smith and sophomore Ryan Baione each contributed 2 hits with freshman Brian Moran picking up the lone RBI.

Game 2 was equally interesting as the Mustangs dropped a tough one 8-7.  The game finished with the tying run on first base.  Sophomore Dan Leonard sent a shot down the 1B line that surely would have plated the run if it wasn't for Townsend at 1B making a stellar catch to end the game and preserve the win for Mary Washington.  Offensively, senior Kevin Rodgers was 3-4 with 1 RBI, senior Dave Brown contributed 2 hits, junior Alex Laddbush also contributed 2 hits, and junior Jimmy Smith was 2-3 with 3 RBI's.  Junior Buddy Breidenbaugh pitched in with 2 RBI's as well.

Although this was the last home game for the Mustangs, they will continue to play another day as the regional pairing will be announced this Sunday Evening and the Mustangs will know their next opponent in their first ever NCAA regional for Wednesday.
