VJC Baseball Wins CAC Opener
St. Mary's, MD - The Villa Julie Baseball Team began their quest for the CAC crown by recording an impressive 12-1 win over St. Mary's College.
St. Mary's College opened the first inning by getting their leadoff hitter on base on a strikeout and a passed ball. After moving him to 2nd on a sacrifice and stealing 3rd, they drew first blood scoring on an RBI groundout by Jay Benedetti. That was their last threat as Junior Mustang starter Wade Keenan (3-0) threw 6 innings allowing just 3 hits and striking out 4. Sophomore John Jackson pitched the final 3 innings, striking out 2 and allowing just 1 hit to notch his first collegiate save. As for the offense, the Mustangs scored a lone run in the 2nd but opened the game up in the 3rd with 3 runs on Senoir Alex Laddbush's double to start the rally. Senior Buddy Breidenbaugh singled him in and Junior Griffin Stewart hit a 2 run single. The game was put away in the 4th when the Mustangs put 6 runs on the board thanks to a 3 run double by Junior Brett Steele, then RBI doubles by Breidenbaugh, Stewart and Sophomore George Papuchis. Breidenbaugh finished the day 3-5 with 2 RBI's, Steele 2-5, 3 RBI's, Stewart 2-3, 3 RBI's, and Papuchis 2-5, 1 RBI.
