Baseball Drops Three Games Over Weekend
Glen Burnie, MD - The Mustang's Baseball Team faltered over the weekend by dropping 2 conference games, and a non-conference contest to Franklin & Marshall University, 9-1. In Saturday's double-header with conference rival St. Mary's College, the Mustang's lost the first game 9-2 and then dropped the second game, 24-10.
In Game 1, five different Mustangs had singles in the loss. Senior Buddy Breidenbaugh (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) took the loss on the mound, dropping to 0-2 on the young season. In the second game, Junior infielder Brett Steele (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) paced Villa Julie with a 3-for-5 effort at the plate, which included a triple, two runs and an RBI. Breidenbaugh, senior designated hitter Alex Laddbush (Mercerburg, Pa./Mercerburg), junior catcher Griffin Stewart (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air), and sophomore outfielder George Papuchis (Damascus, Md./Good Counsel) all registered two hits. Stewart and Papuchis each had an extra-base hit, while Papuchis recorded three RBI. Junior right-hander Ryan Baione (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) suffered the loss for the Mustangs as Baione (0-1) gave up eight earned runs on 10 hits in just two innings pitched.
In the game against Franklin & Marshall, Junior Brett Steele stood out in a losing effort by going 4-4 on the day with 2 doubles and an RBI. The Mustangs now stand at 3-4-1 on the season and will be looking to improve that record as they head for Myrtle Beach and Spring Break on Monday.
