Mustangs Pound out 40 runs in Double Header

Glen Burnie, MD - The VIlla Julie Mustangs pounded out 40 runs in two games versus former NEAC rival Keystone College, sweeping the double header, 19-7, and 21-16.

Game 1 started with the Giants putting up 5 runs in the first 2 innings only to see the Mustangs score 6 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and 10 in the 5th to break it open. Derrick Nason (3-0) threw a complete game striking out 4. Offensively, Junior Brett Steele went 4-4 with 3 runs scored 4 RBI's, and a double. Junior Griffin Stewart hit a Grand Slam for his 2nd homer of the year while going 2-4 with 4 RBI's. Junior Ryan Baione also hit a home run and drove in 4 runs on a 2-4 day. Freshman Kyle Van Beek pitched in with 3 hits in 4 at bats and also scored 4 runs.

Game 2 started much like game 1 with the Giants scoring 4 runs in the first only to see the Mustangs score 5 in the first, and 4 more in the 2nd. Keystone responded with a 7 run 3rd to take a 12-9 lead. The bottom of the 3rd was filled with 6 runs from the Mustangs followed by 3 more in the 4th and 5th innings. Sophomore John Jackson came out of the bullpen to pitch 3 2/3 innings to pick up his first victory of the year. Offensively, again Steele went 3-5 with 5 RBI's with 2 doubles. Van Beek (3-4, 4 runs, 1 RBI and a SB), Sophomore George Papuchis (3-4, 4 runs, HR, 3 RBI's), Senior Buddy Breidenbaugh (3-5, 3 runs, HR, 4 RBI's), Junior Wade Keenan (3-5, 2B, 3B, RBI), Stewart (3-5, 4 RBI's) all added 3 hits during game 2. Junior Max Eckert also chipped in with a 3 run triple in the first.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Tuesday at home against non-conference opponenent Washington College in a 3pm start. The Mustangs will have little rest as they face Frostburg State University the following day at home at 3pm.
