Villa Julie Drops CAC Game in Extra Innings

Dover, DE - Villa Julie College came into the game expecting to leave with a victory. After 4 innings Wesley had a lead of 6-3, and that is when the Mustangs bat woke up and scored 1 in the 6th, and 5 more in the 7th to take a 9-6 lead. The five run inning was highlighted by a 3 run home run from Senior Jimmy Smith.

The Mustangs gave 2 runs back in the bottom of the 7th and one more in the eighth on a bases loaded walk. In the top of the 11th, Freshman Dustin Tarlow led off with a single, after a failed sac bunt which resulted in a fly ball out. Junior Wade Keenan picked up the sacrifice moving Tarlow to 2nd base for the Mustangs last opportunity to score. Junior Brett Steele (4-5, 2B, 2 RBI's) was intentionally walked to set up the match up with Wesley's top relief pitcher and the Mustangs number 4 hitter Senior Buddy Breidenbaugh. On this occasion, the Wolverines won.

The bottom of the 11th started with two routine ground outs. Then a walk and a single setting the stage for the final play. Wesley LF, Anthony Cisterino hit a routine ground ball to 2nd, and the Mustangs looked to be out of it, when the ball took a wicked hop, striking 2nd baseman Derrick Nason in the face and the Wolverines were able to score the final run of the game and the victory 10-9. Senior Alex Laddbush took the hard luck loss pitching 3 innings allowing 0 earned runs and 4 K's. Sophomore John Jackson threw 5 outstanding innings to keep the Mustangs close.

Saturday the Mustangs will look to avenge their loss to Wesley for a 12pm Double Header at the Bachman Sports Complex.
