Mike Gunthrop joined the Stevenson staff prior to the 2018 season, serving as a volunteer assistant coach coaching tight ends. He brings a wealth of experience to the Mustang staff.
Gunthrop has served as the head coach at Owings Mills High School since 2014. Prior to that he was the offensive line coach at New Town High School for the 2013 season.
His most recent collegiate coaching stint came from 2002-05 at Morgan State, where he was offensive coordinator for the Bears. From 1997-2002 he was a member of the coaching staff at Western Carolina, working primarily with the offensive line. He was also on the coaching staff at Eastern Arizona and began his coaching career at his alma mater, Towson University.
Gunthrop has twice worked as an NFL coaching intern, with the Carolina Panthers in 1999 and the Cleveland Browns in 2000, working with the offensive line both times.
A three-year starter at Towson, Gunthrop started at right guard as a sophomore before playing center in his final two seasons. He was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior. He is a 1993 graduate of Towson with a degree in History.
