Mustangs Receive NFHCA National Academic Team Award

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - After setting a school record for wins in a season and boasting the first two all-region selections in team history, the Stevenson University field hockey team was honored as a recipient of the NFHCA National Academic Team Award on Monday for having a team grade point average above a 3.0.

The Mustangs were one of 102 teams to be named as such in Division and one of six from the CAC, including Hood, Salisbury, St. Mary's (Md.), Wesley and York (Pa.).

Swarthmore boasted the top team GPA in Division III at 3.59 followed by RPI (3.53), Haverford (3.51), Connecticut College (3.50) and MIT (3.50).

Stevenson finished the 2008 season with a 10-10 record while winning its first ever CAC postseason game and advancing to the semifinals of the CAC Field Hockey Championship. Sophomore Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) and senior Cat Connelly (Fallston/Fallston) were both named to the 2008 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-South Region Team.
