Field Hockey Drops CAC Opener at St. Mary's (Md.), 1-0

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Caitlin Grice scored the game's only goal just 7:30 into the contest to give St. Mary's (Md.) a 1-0 victory over the Stevenson University field hockey team Wednesday afternoon in the CAC opener for both teams.
Grice's goal, assisted by Allie Skiest, came in a decisive first half in which the Seahawks (2-0, 1-0 CAC) outshot the Mustangs, 11-0. They also held an 8-2 edge in corners.
Stevenson (1-2, 0-1 CAC) was more active offensively in the second half, totaling six shots, but just one was on the cage by freshman Kelli Battista (Elkridge/Long Reach) and was saved by Emma Lauhoff.
Sophomore Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) was strong in goal for the Mustangs and she made nine saves with four in the first half and five in the second. Also, sophomore Christie Greer (Bel Air/Bel Air) had a defensive save in the 12th minute on a shot by Sam Locke that would have given St. Mary's a 2-0 lead.
Stevenson returns to home to face Randolph-Macon on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m.
