Mustangs Fall in CAC Semifinals at No. 8 Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - Kandice Hancock totaled three goals and one assist as the No. 8-ranked and 13-time defending champion Salisbury handed the fourth-seeded Stevenson University field hockey team a 7-0 loss Wednesday night in the semifinals of the CAC Field Hockey Championship at Sea Gull Stadium.
The loss likely ends the best ever season for the Mustangs (10-10) who won a school record 10 games and won the team's first-ever postseason game with a 3-2 victory over Wesley in the conference quarterfinals.
Beverly Beladino added a goal and two assists for the Sea Gulls (14-3) who will host second-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday in the championship game after the Seahawks outlasted third-seeded Mary Washington in penalty strokes, 3-2.
Sophomore Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) made nine saves for the Mustangs who were outshot, 27-1. Sophomore Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry Hall) added two defensive saves to increase her team-leading total to five on the season while freshman Ashley Beam (Reisterstown/North Carroll) had one.
Stevenson sophomore Victoria Wolfe (Baltimore/Perry Hall) appeared in her fourth game of the season in goal, making one save over the final 7:26.
In a game that featured a fierce rainstorm that packed winds gusting to 30 mph and sideways rain, Salisbury held a 16-0 advantage in corners, including an 11-0 margin in the first half.
