Zimmerman, Connelly Named NFHCA All-South Region

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The achievements of the Stevenson University field hockey team continued on Monday as sophomore Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) and senior Cat Connelly (Fallston/Fallston) were both named to the 2008 Longstreth/NFHCA Division III All-South Region Team.

Zimmerman's first team selection and Connelly's second team selection are believed to be the first all-region selections in the team's 15-year history. The duo were part of 12 overall selections from the Capital Athletic Conference.

Zimmerman, who was named All-CAC First Team on Thursday, was voted as the South's top goalkeeper in a region that featured five teams ranked in the final top-20 including No. 2-ranked Ursinus, No. 7 Salisbury, No. 10 Johns Hopkins, No. 17 Christopher Newport and No. 18 Gettysburg.

With 123 saves this season, Zimmerman ranked second in the CAC, fourth in shutouts, fifth in goals against average and fifth in save percentage. She started all 20 games and totaled 10 wins a year after totaling five in 18 starts last season.

Connelly finished the season tied for the conference lead in assists with 11 while adding two goals to finish third on the team with 15 points. She started all 20 games this season, extending her consecutive games started streak to 39, dating back to Oct. 29, 2006.
