Mustangs Remain Unbeaten Against Hood, Win Second-Straight at Home

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Four different players scored for the Stevenson field hockey team, including senior Kaitlyn May (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and junior Caitlin Dempsey (Fallston, Md./Fallston) as the Mustangs won their second-straight game at home with a 3-1 victory over Hood Tuesday night at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson (6-6, 2-1 MAC) improved its record to 6-0 all-time against Hood, including 4-0 at home. The two teams have met every season since 2007, the Mustangs' inaugural season in the Capital Athletic Conference.

After a scoreless first 17 minutes, May opened the scoring with her team-leading seventh goal of the season off an assist from freshman Melissa Doering (Street, Md./North Harford) who earned her first collegiate point on the play.

Stevenson maintained its 1-0 lead until Dempsey scored her fourth of the season, unassisted, on a rebound in front on what proved to the game-winner. She now ranks second on the team with four goals and 10 points this season.

Sophomore Alison Kagel (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) added her fourth goal of the season, also unassisted, with 16:32 remaining in the second half before Hood (1-7, 0-2 MAC) avoided third consecutive shutout when Morgan Cole scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season with under six minutes to play.

Freshman Katie Cavanaugh (Parkville, Md./Perry Hall) earned her sixth win of the season while sophomore Katelynn DeFiore (Salisbury, Md./James Bennett) had one save in her fourth appearance of the season.

Ying Van Schaik had six saves for the Blazers while Michelle Buhrman had one defensive save.

Stevenson travels to York (Pa.) on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m., non-conference contest with the Spartans.
