ANNVILLE, Pa. - Stevenson field hockey senior Rosemarie Neiva scored her 11th goal of the season but Lebanon Valley scored two unanswered second half goals as the Mustangs concluded the 2016 season with a 2-1 loss Thursday evening at Arnold Field.
The game marked the end of the careers of Neiva and fellow seniors Blair Bitner, Holli Eppley and Gabriella Brooks. In four years, the group has led the Mustangs to their first-ever postseason title in 2014 and the programs first conference title game in 2015.
The Mustangs (5-11, 1-6 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board just 4:34 into the contest as sophomore Alexis Young crossed a pass to the front of the net towards Neiva who was able to put away the loose ball.
It was the 40th career goal for Neiva, who finishes her career ranked third in program history in that category. She also finishes in third in career points with 86.
The Dutchmen (11-6, 4-3 MAC Commonwealth) tied the game at 1-1, 4:13 into the second half as Megan Arnst deflected a pass into the goal off a penalty corner. Just over five minutes later, Rachel Gorman picked up her second assist as Casey Dombroski fired a shot from the top of the circle off another penalty corner.
Stevenson outshot Lebanon Valley, 6-3, in the second half but all four of the Mustangs' shots on goal were saved by Sarah Dimaggio. Both teams finished with 11 shots in the contest while the Dutchmen held an 11-9 advantage in penalty corners.
