Laurel Martin Named to Capital Area Chapter Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame

HARRISBURG, Pa. - An Olympian and member of the United State Field Hockey Association Hall of Fame, Stevenson field hockey head coach Laurel Martin will be inducted into the 52nd annual Hall of Fame Class for the Capital Area Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Martin will be inducted on June 9.

A graduate of Lower Dauphin High School, Martin was a three-time All-American at the University of North Carolina, leading the Tar Heels to the 1989 National Championship. In 1990, she was named team captain before competing in the World University Games (Sheffield, England), the Pan-American Games (Havana, Cuba), and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (Auckland, New Zealand) in 1991.

In 1994, Martin played for the U.S. National Team in the World Cup held in Dublin, Ireland. She returned to the Pan-American Games, this time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1995 and was a United States Olympian in 1996 in Atlanta.

In June 2004, Martin was inducted into the USFHA Hall of Fame for her years of service on the U.S. National Team.
