Villa Julie Defeats Keuka Storm in NEAC Final Four

Stevenson, MD.- In a total team effort, Villa Julie defeated the Keuka Storm in tonight's playoff game 95-73.  Besides grabbing the win and continuing to the NEAC finals tomorrow, the Mustangs also made some school records.  They had a school record high of 26 assists in a game and Steve Segears (Lanham, MD/ St. Johns College HS) is the first person in school history to have a triple-double.   Segears had 23 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists. 

Villa Julie took a quick 10 point lead when Cilk McSweeney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard) grabbed a rebound then put it in the net to make the score 12-2 at 14:15.  At 10:25, the Mustangs went up by 12 when Ely Richardson (Hartford, CT/ Suffield Academy) hit a free-throw shot.  Keuka answered the Mustangs by closing the gap to one, 32-31, when Corey Edwards made a pair of free throws.  The Mustangs gained some momentum and went on a 15-point scoring run.  Richardson put them ahead by 16 points by sinking a free throw with 1:27 left on the clock.  Segears closed out the half for the Mustangs making a layup with 15 seconds left on the clock.  The Mustangs were up at the half, 49-34. 

Early in the second half, Keuka's Steve Willson stole the ball and handed it off to Todd Lincoln to sink a three-pointer to give the Storm some momentum.  The Mustangs put a halt to the Storm when Segears stole the ball and set it up for a McSweeney dunk to put the Mustangs up 57-37 at 17:07.  At 8:40 Greg Woody (Baltimore, MD/ Mt. St. Joe) stole the ball from Keuka's Bill McKee to make a layup and put the Mustangs up by 28 points, 80-52.  The Mustangs controlled the floor for the second half and went up by as many as 33 points, 93-60, off of a free-throw by Jason Lambert (Bloomsfield, CT/ Kingswood-Oxford).  Vinny Rigatuso (Lansdowne, MD/ Lansdowne) hit a jump-shot that ended the scoring for the Mustangs at 3:04.  Keuka's Rob Tisa ended the game sinking a three-pointer with 32 seconds left on the clock, however it was not enough to win the game. 

McSweeney was the leading scorer of the game with 24 total points.  Segears had 23 points, Lambert had 11, and Richardson added 10 points and five assists.  Keuka's Todd Lincoln was the leading scorer for the Storm with 19 points and Robert McDowell added 13 points to their total score. 

The Mustangs return to the court tomorrow at 2:00 pm to host either Baptist Bible or Chestnut Hill in the NEAC finals.
