"White Out" Planned for Wednesday's Basketball Games

STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson University men's basketball team will host two crucial CAC contests with Marymount (Va.) and Salisbury this week at Student Union Gymnasium with the outcomes determining whether or not the Mustangs will earn a berth in the 2009 CAC Men's Basketball Championship.
Heading into Wednesday's game with Marymount, the Mustangs and Saints are tied for fifth place in the league standings, both with 5-7 conference records, half-a-game ahead of York (Pa.) with four conference games remaining.
The winner of Wednesday's game will improve to 6-7 in the CAC while the loser will fall to 5-8 and into a tie with York, who is idle, for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Game time against Marymount is at 8:00 p.m. Those planning to attend the game are asked to arrive early and wear white as the Mustangs attempt to "white out the Saints" from the race for a berth in the CAC Men's Basketball Championship.
In the last meeting between the Mustangs and Saints, Shaun Ingram and Patrick Prewitt went 6-of-6 from the free throw line and combined for 13 points in the second half as Marymount (Va.) edged Stevenson 70-60 at the Verizon Sports Arena on January 17.
The Saints went 11-of-20 from the free throw line and 11-of-25 from the field in the second half as they used an 11-0 run midway through to take their largest lead of the game at 63-51.
Ingram finished with 14 points for Marymount (Va.) while Prewitt and Chapmen Canady added 10 each. Mike Gray totaled seven points, a game-high 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
Senior guard Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount Saint Joseph) led four players in double figures for Stevenson with a game-high 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half. Senior guard Chaise Lancaster (Bowie/Northwestern) added eight of his 10 points in the half while sophomore guard Matt Leddy (Great Mills/Great Mills) scored six of his career-high 12.
Senior center Kerry Dugan (Sparks/Hereford) finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
On Saturday, Stevenson will host Salisbury in its home finale. The Sea Gulls, who are currently in fourth place in the CAC, one game ahead of the Mustangs, travel to Gallaudet on Wednesday.
Wesley and St. Mary's (Md.) guaranteed themselves of a spot in the conference tournament with wins on Saturday. Mary Washington has a two-game lead over Salisbury and owns the tiebreaker against the Sea Gulls by virtue of its regular-season sweep this season.
Updated information on the race for the conference tournament and Saturday's final home game will be posted on Thursday following the results of Wednesday's conference schedule.
