Season Ends For Men's Basketball at Mary Washington
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Brandon Altmann totaled 25 points and 14 rebounds to lead four players in double figures for Mary Washington who officially eliminated the Stevenson University men's basketball team from a berth in the CAC Men's Basketball Championship with a 77-56 defeat Saturday at Goolrick Gymnasium.
After a 79-75 victory over Hood at home on January 21 put the Mustangs (6-19, 5-11 CAC) in fifth place in the conference standings, they finished the season with losses in seven of their last nine games, including four-straight.
Meanwhile, the Eagles (13-11, 10-6 CAC) solidified their third seed in the conference tournament with their third win out of the last five.
Mary Washington never trailed in Saturday's game after opening with a 13-2 run over the first 4:18, five of which came from Altmann, including a three-pointer to start the game.
Junior guard Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount Saint Joseph) was the lone player to score in double figures for Stevenson, finishing with 17 points. He will begin his final collegiate season ranked fourth on the school's career scoring list with 1,156 points.
In his final collegiate game, senior center Kerry Dugan (Sparks/Hereford) totaled nine points, four rebounds and two blocks. After missing last season due to injury, he finished the season second on the team in scoring at 10.5 points per game while leading the team in rebounding at 8.0 per game.
Senior guard Darryl Fleming (Oxon Hill/Jericho) played six minutes in his final collegiate game.
