Men's Basketball Drops 66-50 CAC Decision to Hood

STEVENSON, Md. - J'Air Brady scored 20 points and Hood scored 42 of its 66 points in the paint while holding Stevenson to just 31.7 percent shooting from the floor en route to a 66-50 CAC victory Monday night at Student Union Gymnasium.
The win elevated the Blazers (9-5, 4-1 CAC) into a first place tie atop the CAC standings with York (Pa.) and St. Mary's (Md.), half-a-game ahead of Mary Washington. It was also Hood's first win at Student Union Gymnasium since Stevenson joined the CAC prior to the 2007-08 season, snapping a two-game losing streak.
Brady, who just missed a double double with nine rebounds, led three players in double figures as Tyler Snoots had 11 and Reco Siler added 10. Tory Wilson totaled a game-high 10 rebounds while the Blazers out-rebounded the Mustangs, 43-35.
Hood never trailed in the game and after back-to-back baskets by Brady, the team took the lead for good, 9-4 with 14:09 left in the first half.
Stevenson (1-12, 1-3 CAC) would pull within one at 13-12 with 10:01 remaining before an 8-0 run gave the Blazers nine-point advantage with under seven minutes to play.
Hood held its nine-point lead before a three-pointer by junior guard Andy Shelly (York, Pa./West York) cut the Mustangs' deficit to six at halftime.
A three-pointer by freshman forward Clifton Jones (Bowie/Archbishop Spaulding) pulled Stevenson within five, 33-28 with 13:26 remaining, but that would be as close as it would get as the Blazers responded with another 8-0 run to push their advantage to 13.
Hood led by as many as 20 before a meaningless layup by Ryan Joyce with one second left provided the final 16-point margin.
Jones and Shelly each finished with eight points for the Mustangs while freshman forward Danny Murphy (Severn/Glen Burnie) led the team with nine off the bench. Murphy also totaled three of Stevenson's five blocks.
Senior guard Irvin Jones (Landover/Riverdale Baptist) and freshman center Andrew Bishop (Lothian/Southern) had five rebounds apiece.
Stevenson hosts a CAC contest with Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday beginning at 8:00 p.m.
