Men Come Up Just Short in 69-61 Loss to Salisbury

STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson men's basketball freshman forward Clifton Jones (Bowie/Archbishop Spaulding) scored a career-high 16 points, all in the second half, to lead a furious comeback, but Salisbury made 17-of-19 free throws in the half en route to a 69-61 victory Wednesday night at Student Union Gymnasium.

Jones was 6-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from three-point range while junior forward Patrick Lewis (Timonium/Dulaney) posted his second career double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

After falling behind by its largest deficit of the game at 17 points, 50-33 with 11:57 remaining in the second half, Jones scored 12 points on four three-pointers to spark a 17-5 run that cut the deficit to five, 55-50 with 5:55 left.

However, the Sea Gulls (8-8, 4-4 CAC) responded with a 10-0 run over the next 4:30 to push the lead back to 15 with 1:25 to play.

Back-to-back three-pointers by junior guard Andy Shelly (York, Pa./West York) and junior guard Broderick Hill (Bowie/Bishop McNamara) in the final four seconds provided the final nine-point margin.

Stevenson (1-16, 1-7 CAC) trailed 33-25 at the half after shooting 25.0 percent from the floor, making 7-of-28 attempts and 3-of-13 from three-point range.

Hill finished with 10 points and five rebounds while Shelly had nine.

Chris McGrew led Salisbury with a game-high 23 points while Greg Palmer added 19. Mike Maczko had nine points and eight rebounds.
