Jones, Hill Lead Mustangs in Final Games at Stevenson

STEVENSON, Md. - Playing in their final career game, Stevenson men's basketball senior guard Irvin Jones (Landover/Riverdale Baptist) and junior guard Broderick Hill (Bowie/Bishop McNamara) combined for 23 points, nine rebounds and four steals as the Mustangs fell to Wesley, 76-58 Saturday at Student Union Gymnasium.

The win was the 10th in the last 11 for the Wolverines (17-7, 10-6 CAC) and secured them the second-seed and first-round bye in the CAC Men's Basketball Championship that starts Tuesday.

Jones finished with a career-high 14 points and six rebounds in his final game as a Mustang while Hill totaled nine points, three rebounds and three steals.

Wesley jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the game's first seven minutes before Stevenson rallied to cut it to three on jumper by Hill, 34-31 with 1:17 remaining in the first half.

Jones totaled 10 points and four rebounds in the first half while Hill had six.

An 18-6 run by the Wolverines extended a 38-31 halftime lead to their largest of the game at 19 points, 56-37 advantage with 12:16 to play in the second half.

Wesley, who scored 25 points off 25 Mustang turnovers, totaled 14 in the second half and 18 in the paint. Alphonzo Wright totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolverines while Chris Douglas added 18 points and five assists. Sean McAndrew was also in double figures with 10 points.

CAC Rookie of the Year candidate, freshman forward Danny Murphy (Severn/Glen Burnie), totaled 12 points, five rebounds, three blocks and three steals for the Mustangs while sophomore center Keith Holtman (Baltimore/Eastern) had eight points and seven rebounds.
