READING, Pa. - Stevenson men's basketball sophomore James Milton (Detroit, Mich./Parkville) totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Mustangs notched their first win in the Commonwealth Conference with a 75-66 road victory over Alvernia Wednesday at the Physical Education Center.
Stevenson (4-2, 1-2 MAC), which played its first game away from Owings Mills Gymnasium this season, fell behind 8-0 in the game's first four minutes.
Junior Alfonzo Hawkins (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City) would score the Mustangs' first two points from the foul line, sparking a 13-2 run over the next 5:30.
Alvernia would cut the lead to one on a lay-up by Brian Parker with 11:08 remaining in the first half, but the Mustangs would never surrender the lead, taking a 41-30 at the half.
The Crusaders would come within one three times in the second half, posting an 18-8 run over the opening seven minutes, but Stevenson responded with an 11-4 run, capped by a three-pointer by freshman Christian Roberts (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) with 4:45 remaining.
Roberts was one of four Mustangs to score in double figures as he finished with 10 points. Junior Stefon McCray (Milton, Fla./Archbishop Curley) had a game-high 17 points to go along with seven rebounds off the bench while senior Brett Burrier (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) added 16 points.
Milton also posted a double double against UMass-Boston with 18 points and 14 rebounds in the Hoopsville National Invitational Classic on November 18.
The Crusaders (3-2, 1-2 MAC) were led by 16 points and 11 rebounds from Terrance Bridgers while Kahlil Bennett added 13 points, going 3-for-6 from three-point range.
Stevenson travels to Widener on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off, with the Pride.
