ANNVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Cameron Hayes of the Stevenson University men's basketball team was named to the Academic All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) for men's basketball on Tuesday morning. Hayes was the lone freshman selected to the 13-member team.
To be eligible for the MAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must post a 3.20 term GPA during the semester of their championship season. Voting for the award is based on 50% academic excellence and 50% athletic prowess by the athletic communications professionals at the MAC's 17 institutions.
Hayes was the ECAC Division III South and MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year after leading the Mustangs in scoring at 14.9 points per game. He ranked eighth in the conference and tops among league freshmen in the scoring column.
Hayes shot 42.2% from the floor and 78.1% from the free throw line. Hayes also averaged 4.2 rebounds per game. Playing in all 25 games for Stevenson and starting 24, Hayes reached double figures in scoring 17 times and led the Mustangs in scoring on 11 occasions. Over Stevenson's final seven contests, Hayes averaged 21.4 points per game, including a career-high 31 points against Alvernia on February 14.
