Torrid Shooting Moves Mustangs to Season Sweep of Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Stevenson shot 62.1% over the final 20 minutes and 57.7% for the game as it completed a season sweep of Lycoming with an 81-57 MAC Commonwealth men's basketball victory Saturday afternoon at Lamade Gymnasium.

  • Stevenson (14-7, 8-4 MAC Commonwealth) held a 15-8 lead just under seven minutes into the game following a three by Cam Harris.
  • Lycoming (9-13, 3-10) used a 10-3 run to tie the game 18-18 at the 9:18 mark on two Darius James free throws.
  • The Mustangs responded with seven straight points and a Montaque Wright three-pointer with 8:11 on the clock put the guests up 25-18.
  • After the Warriors pulled within three, another 7-0 Stevenson spurt pushed the Mustang lead to 10, 34-24, on a layup by Johnny Rhodes 1:30 before intermission.
  • Stevenson took a 34-25 lead into the locker room.

  • Back-to-back threes by Wright, the second at the 17:20 mark, gave his team a 12-point cushion, 42-30.
  • Eight straight points by Lycoming moved the Warriors within four, 42-38, with 15:23 left on a Nasir Akram jumper.
  • Stevenson responded with an 8-0 run of its own to build the lead back to 12 with 12:28 on the clock, with a basket by Rhodes making it 50-38.
  • D'Yante Doughty made a basket with 8:31 left to pull the Warriors within seven, 54-47.
  • The visitors salted the game away with a 13-2 run capped by a steal and layup by Wright with 4:51 left that made it 67-49.
  • Stevenson closed the game on a larger 27-10 run.

  • Stevenson completed a season sweep of Lycoming, its first of the Warriors since 2013-14.
  • The Mustangs finished a season-best 30-52 (57.7%) from the floor for the game and 9-23 from three-point land.  Stevenson shot 21-29 (72.4%) on two-point field goal attempts.
  • Stevenson improved to 6-0 this season when shooting over 50% from the floor.
  • Lycoming shot just 31.4% overall and 4-26 behind the arc.
  • Stevenson was 12-17 from the free throw line, while Lycoming was 9-16.
  • The Mustangs held a 39-36 rebounding advantage.
  • Marcus Dentley finished 8-11 from the floor and totaled 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists to pace Stevenson.
  • Mark Terrell was 9-12 from the floor, including 2-2 from long range, and also finished with 20 points.
  • Wright tallied 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals.
  • Rhodes added eight points and five rebounds off the bench.
  • After being picked last in the MAC Commonwealth preseason poll, Stevenson sits tied for second in the conference standings with Hood. The Mustangs can lock up their first conference playoff berth since 2015-16 with a win or an Albright loss over the final four games.
