Ronnie Murphy Men's Basketball
A former NBA athlete, first-year assistant coach Ronnie Murphy comes to the Villa Julie men's basketball program to share his knowledge and experience of the game. Born in Dover, Delaware, Murphy graduated from Oviedo High School in Florida and went on to attend Jacksonville University, where he made his mark on NCAA basketball as a star player from 1983-87. During his career, he was a consistent scorer each season, averaging a total of 17 points per game over his four years with the Dolphins, according to basketball-reference.com.
Murphy's successful college career made him a first-round selection by the Portland Trailblazers in the 1987 NBA draft. He stayed with the team for one year, accumulating a sum of 36 points, six assists and 11 rebounds, and completed his NBA career after his rookie season.
