Ellis' Career Best 73 Leads Mustangs to Win at Rival Messiah's Spring Classic

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Stevenson men's golf sophomore Will Ellis (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) shot a one-over par 73, leading the Mustangs to win the 18-team Messiah Falcons Spring Classic at the Blue Ridge Country Club Tuesday.  The team finished with a 298, seven strokes ahead of host and conference rival Messiah.

Ellis shared low medalist honors with Messiah's Austin Galaska, but lost the tie-breaker for the individual title.  Regardless, it is his fourth top 10 finish in the last six tournaments.

Sophomore Al El Kordi-Hubbard (Vienna, Va./James Madison) and senior Justin Hughes (Baldwin, Md./Calvert Hall) both finished one stroke behind Ellis, tying for third place.

Junior Ben Lukehart (Bel Air, Md./Mt. Carmel) carded a five-over 77 to round out the team scoring and finish in a five-way tie for 15th.

For the Mustangs, it was the third team title of the season and fifth over the last two.  Today's 298 is the third lowest combined score in program history behind the 296 and 297 turned in both days of the Penn State Harrisburg Fall Invitational on Sep. 22-23, 2012.

Stevenson will compete in the two-day MAC Men's Golf Championships this weekend, April 27-28, at the Hershey Country Club.
