Al El Kordi-Hubbard Leads 29th Place Mustangs at NCAA Golf Championships
DESTIN, Fla. - Stevenson men's golf sophomore Al El Kordi-Hubbard (Vienna, Va./James Madison) shot a first round 78 to lead the Mustangs to 29th place after day one of the 2013 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Tuesday.
Two different courses are played in the preliminaries. The Mustangs played the par-71 Raven today and will play the par-72 Links tomorrow.
Stevenson shot a combined 40-over par 324, tying with St. Norbert who shot a 328 on the Links. The Mustangs are five strokes behind Skidmore and three ahead of McDaniel..
Freshman Matthew Daryman (York, Pa./York Catholic), sophomore Will Ellis (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall), senior Justin Hughes (Baldwin, Md./Calvert Hall) and junior Ben Lukehart (Bel Air, Md./Mt. Carmel) all shot an 11-over 82.
Methodist is in first place with a two-over combined 290, two strokes ahead of second-place Transylvania and three ahead of Texas-Tyler. The Monarchs were led by low medalist Jeff Wells' three-under par 69.
After tomorrow's second round, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams.
