Larry Myers Lacrosse Classic A Huge Success

Owings Mills, MD - The 1st Annual Larry Myers Lacrosse Classic proved to be a great success, helping to raise funds and awareness about Huntington's Disease. It was a great day for lacrosse action and the support from the community and travelling supporters was overwhelming.

The event was held on October 14th at Villa Julie College with 4 lacrosse teams participating, Villa Julie, Ursinus, Widener, and Essex. The tournament was set up by Assistant Lacrosse Coach Bryan Myers to raise awarness about Huntington's disease.   Coach Myers father, Larry Myers, was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease 3 ½ years ago and has been living with it ever since.  Like many other families who encounter the daily pressures of coping with HD, Larry's is no different.  It is an honor that his children are raising awareness of HD in his name.  One of Larry's great pleasures in life was to watch his sons play the games they love. Coach Myers wanted to show his thanks by saying a few words,

"I want to thank everybody in the Villa Julie community for their tremendous support and help in making the first Larry Myers Lacrosse Classic a huge success. From the top-down the support was amazing. In our effort we raised close to $4,500 to donate to the Center of Excellence in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins. We hope this becomes a tradition here at Villa Julie, and continues to grow year in and year out. On behalf of my family, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, as without your support this never would have been possible. A special thanks go to Brett Adams our Athletic Director,  the entire Villa Julie Lacrosse coaching staff, the Villa Julie women's lacrosse team for volunteering their time to work the event, the Field Hockey team and Diesel Lacrosse for hosting the pre-game celebration."
