Men's Lacrosse Takes First Loss At Gettysburg
Gettysburg, PA - The Mustangs (2-1, 1-0) traveled to take on #2 Gettysburg College (2-0) this afternoon for a non-conference tilt. After capturing the lead in the fourth period, Gettysburg scored two goals within 11 seconds to secure the win 10-9.
The score remained 0-0 for almost the entire first period until Gettysburg scored with 2:30 on the clock. The Bullets went on to score two more goals before Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, NY/Henniger) hit the goal for the Mustangs with four minutes left in the second period. Nick Bevacqua (Booton Township, NJ/Mt. Lakes) followed up with another goal with just 30 seconds left in the half to make the halftime score 3-2.
The Mustangs came into the second half with intensity as
Richard Ford
(Baltimore,
MD/Towson)
scored within the first few minutes to tie the Bullets.
Gettysburg answered with a goal of their own and
Bevacqua scored again to even out the
score.
Villa took their first lead of the day, 9-8, when Kevin
Donnelly (Laurel, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) scored with only
five minutes left in the game. Gettysburg rallied back and
scored two back-to-back goals within 11 seconds at the end of the
fourth quarter to give the Mustangs their first loss of the season
10-9.
The Mustangs won 14 out of 20 faceoffs, Brandon Hastings
(Baltimore,
MD/Calvert Hall) won 13 and
picked up 6 groundballs for the day. Villa also outshot the
Bullets 36-33. Goalie, Eric Fleegle
(Easton,
MD/St. Peter and Paul) totaled 11
saves.
Bevacqua led the team in scoring with four goals. Ford scored twice and Greg Furshman (Miami, FL/Towson), Kazimer, and Donnelly each scored one goal today.
The Mustangs return to their home field on Saturday to host Ursinus at 1 pm.
