#9 Mustangs Lose In CAC Final

Salisbury, MD - The #9 Ranked Villa Julie Men's Lacrosse Team traveled to face the number one team in the country, Salisbury University, in the Capital Athletic Conference final. Salisbury would win the battle between the two top ten teams, 20-10. With the loss, the Mustangs finish second in the CAC and will finish up their regular season schedule against Stevens Institute of Technology.
The game started at a frantic pace with both teams eager to draw first blood. Villa scored first through Richie Ford, ensuring there was no repeat of their first quarter mauling by Salisbury in the regular season when they went down 6-0. Salisbury responded quickly and within 3 minutes they had tied the game at 1-1. A non-release penalty on the Mustangs allowed Salisbury to score two goals with the man adavantage. However, the Stang's showed heart and bounced back before the end of the quarter, scoring through Kevin Donnelly and Drew Brady to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the first.
The second quarter was much like the first, with both teams battling to gain control of the game. Salisbury added two goals before the Mustangs cut the lead to one through Ford's second goal of the game. Salisbury would add to their tally by scoring three more goals before the half to Villa's one by Greg Furshman, leaving the Sea Gulls 8-5 ahead at the break. The third period was one to forget for Villa Julie, as the Sea Gulls scored nine unanswered goals to put the game out of reach for the Mustangs. Villa did not give up and hit the Salisbury cage five times in the fourth period to Salisbury's three, closing the game at 20-10. Ford scored three of the fourth period goals along with Donnelly's second of the day and Nic Bevacqua's first.
Richie Ford finished up with 5 goals and 1 assist, followed by Kevin Donnelly with 2 goals and 1 assist. Chole Mueller led the Mustangs on defense with 2 Caused Turnovers.
The Mustangs will finish up their regular season schedule on Saturday May 3rd against Stevens Tech at 3pm. Please join us in honoring the seniors on the team.
