InsideLacrosse Picks Mustangs No. 2, CAC Champion

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - InsideLacrosse has released its preseason Division III selections from its Face-Off Yearbook 2010 and Stevenson has been ranked at No. 2 in its preseason Top 20 and picked to win the CAC championship. In addition, four players have been honored as all-american and all-conference selections.
The Mustangs, who posted a school record 17 wins and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship as the nation's top-ranked team, were ranked second behind defending national champion Cortland who finished 19-2 a year ago.
Gettysburg, who lost to Cortland in the title game and beat Stevenson in the semifinals, was ranked third ahead of defending CAC champion Salisbury and Roanoke.
Stevenson is scheduled to play five teams ranked by InsideLacrosse this season, four of which will be at home. The team will host No. 7 Western New England on March 7 before traveling to No. 18 Lynchburg on March 20.
Roanoke comes to Owings Mills on March 27 before the showdown with Salisbury on April 3. Following the CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship, No. 9 Denison comes to Caves Athletics Complex for senior day on May 1.
The Mustangs were ranked third in Lacrosse Magazine's Midsummer Night's Division III Power Ranking in September behind Cortland and Roanoke. Salisbury and Gettysburg were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
Stevenson returns its top three scorers, including junior Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winters Mill), senior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) and senior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson), all three who were honored by InsideLacrosse as preseason all-americans.
Kazimer and Dailey were both first team selections while Ford was named to the third team.
The 2009 USILA Attackman of the Year and first team all-american, Kazimer led the team in scoring with 69 points, the fifth-most in school history. He also ranked fifth all-time with 36 assists and in just two seasons, is ranked second in school history with 152 points and 82 assists.
Dailey was also a first team all-american last season after leading the team with 37 assists, the fourth-highest total in school history. He added 29 goals for 66 points and in two seasons, has totaled 65 assists and 126 points which are ranked fourth and sixth all-time in team history, respectively.
Ford led the team in goals for the second-straight season in 2009, ranking third in school history with 42 after totaling a school record 59 in 2008. He is currently ranked second all-time after just two seasons with 101 goals.
The Mustangs also return six starters this season, including three on defense led by junior Evan Douglass (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) who was selected by InsideLacrosse as a third team all-american. He was an All-CAC Second Team selection a year ago and ranked third on the team with 56 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers.
In the organization's all-conference selections, Stevenson was picked to win the CAC championship this year ahead of Salisbury and St. Mary's (Md.). In addition, Kazimer, Dailey and Douglass were each received preseason all-conference honors.
InsideLacrosse's all-conference selections were voted upon by the coaches of the schools prior to fallball during the information-gathering stages of the yearbook writing. Each coach selected their first team all-conference as well as ranking the teams in their league from top to bottom.
