Tim Puls Named Division III Assistant Coach of the Year

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's lacrosse assistant coach Tim Puls was named the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year for Division III during the organization's annual convention held this past weekend at the Baltimore Convention Center.
As the Mustangs' defensive coordinator, Puls coordinated one of the nation's top defensive units in 2009 as the team finished the year ranked 10th out of 151 teams in Division III in scoring defense, allowing opponents an average of just 6.89 goals per game.
"Tim has really been a staple of our program from the start and we wouldn't be where we are without his help," said sixth-year head coach Paul Cantabene. "He's a great example for our players both on the field and off. He's a great defensive coach and brings a ton of outside the box thinking that helps us to do what we do."
Two of Puls' defenders, senior Mike Simon (Fallston/Fallston) and sophomore Evan Douglass (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) received All-CAC honors while Simon was selected as a second team all-american.
Entering the 2010 season, InsideLacrosse named Douglass as a third team all-american in its Face-Off Yearbook 2010.
Prior to Stevenson, Puls totaled a 213-90 record as the head coach at CCBC Essex where he led the Knights to the 1991 NJCAA championship and was the 1990 and 1995 NJCAA Coach of the Year. He also won 16 Maryland Junior College championships and 14 NJCAA Region XX titles while being named Maryland Junior College Coach of the Year 15 times.
