Five Mustangs Named Preseason All-Americans in 2013 Face-Off Yearbook
OWINGS MILLS, Md. - One year after tying a school record with nine USILA All-America selections, five members of the 2013 Stevenson men's lacrosse team were selected as Preseason All-Americans in Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook, highlighted by senior Kyle Holecheck (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) who was named to the first team.
Joining Holecheck was sophomore Stephen Banick (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) and sophomore Tony Rossi (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) were named to the second team as well as senior Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier) and junior Ryan Rubenstein (Sykesville, Md./Boys' Latin) named to the third team.
Reid and Rubenstein were chosen as preseason All-Americans by Inside Lacrosse for the second-straight year after both were tabbed honorable mention in 2012.
Holecheck was a USILA Second Team All-American a year ago and was also an All-CAC First Team and ECAC Mid-Atlantic All-Star. He led the team with 54 caused turnovers and 79 ground balls, anchoring a defense that ranked 10th in Division III in scoring defense allowing just 6.13 goals per game.
Banick was a USILA Honorable Mention All-American last season after being named to the All-CAC First Team and leading the team with 36 goals, 27 assists and 63 points.
Reid also earned USILA Honorable Mention All-America honors last season, finishing second on the team with 33 goals and third with 47 points. In four games in the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship, he led the tournament with 13 goals and 17 points.
Rubenstein earned USILA Honorable Mention All-American honors a year ago and was an All-CAC Second Team selection. He totaled 44 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers and in 2011, was chosen as the CAC Rookie of the Year.
Rossi is slated to return to the Mustangs after missing the 2012 season. He appeared in all 21 of the team's games in 2011, finishing fourth on the team in goals (26), assists (18) and points (44). He was also selected as a USILA Honorable Mention All-American was the only freshman among the 115 selections to receive All-America honors.
