No. 4 Mustangs Continue Conference Dominance With 21-4 Victory at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Led by four goals from senior Peter Green (Hereford, Md./Hereford) and three each from sophomore Mark Pannenton (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) and sophomore Matt Tompkins (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset), the fourth-ranked Stevenson men's lacrosse team posted a 20-4 victory over Messiah at Anderson Field.

The win kept the Mustangs (13-2, 6-0 MAC) unbeaten in their first season in the Commonwealth Conference. Their 21 goals scored were as many as they have allowed in six conference contests this season as the team has outscored its opponents, 122-21.

Stevenson, who was ranked at No. 2 in the NCAA regional rankings released on Wednesday, now holds a one-game lead atop the conference standings ahead of No. 16 Widener, the Mustangs' next opponent, after the Pride fell for the first time in conference play Wednesday night, 10-9 in overtime at Albright.

The Mustangs scored 10 first-quarter goals, marking the third time this season that they have scored at least 10 in a single quarter. They scored a school-record 11 in the first quarter against both Hood and Alvernia and have outscored their opponents 82-17 in the opening period this season, including 52-2 in six conference games with four shutouts.

Stevenson led 13-0 at the half with Green and Tompkins each scoring three goals apiece. The trio of Green, Pannenton and Tompkins combined to score 10 of the team's first 16 goals as the Mustangs led 16-1 with 8:12 remaining in the first quarter.

Senior Tyler Reid (Clinton, Conn./Xavier) scored his only goal of the game with 8:43 to play in the second quarter and now has 100 in three seasons as a Mustang. He is just the sixth player in the program's 19-year history to score 100 goals in a Stevenson uniform.

A total of 16 different players scored for Stevenson, including sophomore Callum Robinson (Perth, Australia/Sacred Heart) who netted his second of the season from his defensive position just 9:14 into the game. He also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Senior Andrew Bishop (Lothian, Md./Southern) and freshman Matt Burns (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) also scored their second goals of the year with Burns getting his with 2:37 left in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

Reid finished with a goal and two assists while three-time Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, junior Chris Dashiell (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) had three assists. Sophomore Kevin Cain (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) made his second-straight start in goal and was credited with three saves in 36:48 in earning his second carer win.

The Mustangs outshot the Falcons 63-22 and won 27-of-29 faceoffs, including 13-of-13 by junior Brent Hiken (Pikesville, Md./Pikesville) who also picked up 10 ground balls.

Messiah (4-7, 2-3 MAC) was led by Ryan Mayer who had one goal and one assist. Brooks Arnold made 10 saves in 37:54 after relieving starter Jon Weimer who allowed eight goals in the game's first 11:38.

Stevenson travels to No. 16 Widener on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m., faceoff with the Pride. The Mustangs lead the all-time series 4-0 and won last year's meeting 11-3 at home on Mar. 7, 2012.
