BALTIMORE – Former Stevenson University president Dr. Kevin Manning was honored by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) with its Extra Man Award at the organization's annual coaches' convention on Friday.
The IMLCA Award, created in 2013, is presented annually to a university or college administrator who displays the highest level support for the growth of lacrosse. The name of the award symbolizes the situation in men's lacrosse games when a team has a man-up advantage over its opponent. The IMLCA Extra Man Award recognizes administrators who have expressed efforts to grow the sport of lacrosse.
Manning served as Stevenson's president from 2000 until November, 2016, and during that time the university and the athletics program experienced tremendous growth. Stevenson's men's lacrosse program has established itself as one of the premiere NCAA Division III programs in the country, with nine straight NCAA tournament appearances and a national championship in 2013. The University also plays host to the annual Mustang Classic, which brings eight of the top Division III lacrosse teams each March to Mustang Stadium, a 3,500-seat facility constructed during Manning's tenure and opened in 2011.
