Mustangs Match Program Record With 33 Goals at Alvernia

READING, Pa. - The Stevenson University men's lacrosse team tied the program record for goals in a game and 13 different players scored as the Mustangs downed Alvernia 33-4 Tuesday afternoon in MAC Commonwealth action.

  • Alvernia (3-9, 0-4 MAC Commonwealth) scored the game's first goal as Jarret Abernethy scored 1:45 into the game.
  • Stevenson (6-6, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) got on the board 24 seconds later on a goal by Josh Brannan.
  • Will Smith gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead at the 11:59 mark.
  • The Mustangs led 11-1 after one quarter, outshooting the Golden Wolves 20-1.
  • Ethan Christensen and Brannan finished with three goals in the quarter, while JT Thelen scored twice.
  • Jacob Tatum and Lewis Anania also had scores in the frame.

  • Christensen scored his fourth goal of the game 48 seconds into the second.
  • After Alvernia scored at the 13:29 mark, the Mustangs scored the final six goals of the quarter to lead 18-2 at intermission.
  • Danny Buckwalter closed out the first half scoring with his goal 1:22 before the break.

  • The Mustangs blanked Alvernia in the third 15 minutes, outscoring the hosts 9-0.
  • Ryan Coleman scored his second goal of the season with 10:08 on the clock.
  • Gray King registered three goals in the quarter, including back-to-back tallies at 5:48 and 3:45.
  • Junior Matt Bowman scored his first goal of the season with 13 seconds left to make it 27-2 through three.

  • Stevenson ties the single-game scoring record of 33 goals set last season in a 33-7 win against Hood.
  • A total of 13 different players had goals, with 17 players recording at least one point.
  • Christensen led the Mustangs with six goals and three assists, while Thelen notched six goals and two assists.
  • King totaled four goals, with Harrington posting three goals and an assist.
  • Brannan registered three goals, while Smith, Bowman and Buckwalter each adding two.
  • Cam Leydig and Connor Nelson each had a pair of assists.

  • Thelen moved into second place on Stevenson's career goals list as he now has 168 career goals.  He passed former Division III Player of the Year Jimmy Dailey, who had 166 from 2007-11.  He sits 13 away from Richie Ford, who scored 181 career goals from 2008-11.
  • Stevenson improved to 52-0 all-time in MAC Commonwealth regular season play.
