Mustangs Hire Highly Regarded New Coach John Plevyak

Owings Mills, MD.-

VJC Men's Soccer welcomes John Plevyak as its sixth coach in the program's history.

Plevyak came to VJC from McDaniel College, where he held the record for achieving the most wins in the men's soccer 82 year history, with an overall record of 125-113-17.   In the past five of seven seasons, Plevyak has finished in the top ten in the 82-team Mid-Atlantic Region, with players who have racked up 79 wins - the most in any seven year span in McDaniel's soccer history.

Plevyak has coached thirty-seven players to the All-Centennial Conference team, two of which were named CC Player of the Year.  Three of Plevyak's players also garnered awards outside of the playing field, achieving spots on the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Team, a squad that encompasses all three NCAA divisions of collegiate soccer.  Throughout the first 70 years prior to his arrival at McDaniel, only two teams had earned double-digit seasons, a feat that Plevyak conquered four of the past seven seasons as head coach.  In 2005 Plevyak won the Centennial Conference regular  season title, allowing just two goals all year.

Plevyak, a Baltimore native, began his coaching career at his alma mater Mt. St. Joseph High School in Baltimore , MD.   At St. Joe he led the Gaels to an 81-22-10 record and two MIAA championships over his eight year tenure.  Plevyak then stepped away from coaching and entered the business world for 11 years, but coaching lured him back in 1994 as he took the reins at McDaniel.

Plevyak says that "I am excited about his opportunity to be part of the vision of taking VJC to an elite level.  The talent level at Villa Julie that I am inheriting will be a great asset and backbone in building a quality program."

Villa Julie's Athletic Director, Brett Adams, says "we are really excited about a new era of soccer here at Villa Julie College .  Coach is one of the most respected coaches in the region, and his experience and level of commitment to soccer is a key component for our future success in the Capital Athletic Conference.  We're also very fortunate to have Coach Trevor Brown and Coach Thomas Kane on board with Coach Plevyak."

Plevyak is a graduate of University of Baltimore , with a degree in criminal justice.  He currently lives in Finksburg , Maryland , with his wife, Dana, and their children, Lindsey and Jonathan.
