Mustangs Drop 1-0 Decision at Penn State-Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Joshua Crist scored unassisted in the 24th minute for the game's only goal to give Penn State-Harrisburg a 1-0 victory over the Stevenson University men's soccer team on Friday, snapping the Mustangs two-game win streak.

The loss marked the first for Stevenson (2-2) against a school from the North Eastern Athletic Conference since Oct. 3, 2006 when it lost to Philadelphia Biblical 1-0 at home. That year, PBU won the NEAC championship after the Mustangs won it 2005.

On Friday, Stevenson held a 20-13 edge in shots, but 15 of those shots were either high, wide, blocked or hit the post as Nittany Lion keeper Toan Ngo was forced to make just four saves to pick up the shutout victory in the season opener for Penn State Harrisburg.

After Crist gave the Nittany Lions (1-0) a 1-0 lead, the Mustangs had a flurry of activity on net in the final three minutes of the first half, highlighted by three consecutive attempts by freshman Chris Sokolis (Perry Hall/Perry Hall).

Sokolis' first opportunity came in the 43rd minute and hit the post before a header just 10 seconds later went high. He then had a shot in the 44th minute that was saved by a Penn State Harrisburg defender before an attempt by senior Sal Caltabiano (Jarrettsville/Western Guilford (N.C.)) went wide with just 19 seconds remaining in the half.

Sophomore Tyler King (Parkville/Calvert Hall), who scored the game-winner in a 2-1 win over rival McDaniel on Wednesday, then hit the post in the 65th minute as the Mustangs could not get the equalizer.

Freshman Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) saw the first action of his career for Stevenson in goal, totaling 75 minutes while allowing the game's only goal and making one save.

The Mustangs return to action at 4:00 p.m., on Monday at Lebanon Valley. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday before being rescheduled due to the anticipation of bad weather caused by the remnants of Hurricane Hanna.
