Second Half Again Dooms Mustangs in Loss to Marymount

Box score

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - For the second time in as many games, the second half proved to be the downfall of the Stevenson University men's soccer team as the Mustangs surrendered two second half goals en route to a 2-0 loss to Marymount (Va.) Saturday at the Caves Complex.

On Wednesday, Stevenson (4-9-2, 0-4-1 CAC) battled fourth-place Salisbury to a scoreless draw before surrending three second half goals in a 3-0 defeat.

The Mustangs outshot the Saints 20-9, including 12-3 in the first half, but could not find the back of the net as Marymount keeper William Brahmstedt picked up his second shutout of the season with five saves, three of which came in the first half.

The game, which featured 31 fouls and three yellow cards, was scoreless until the 62nd minute when Chris Tipton scored his first goal of the year on a loose ball in the box.

The Saints (4-7-3, 3-2-1 CAC) picked up their second goal when No. 2, Graham Sutherland, scored his second goal of the season on a rebound, assisted by Andrew Stearns after Stearns' shot was saved by Stevenson senior Adam Wiatrowski (Baltimore/Patapsco).

In addition to a plus-11 edge in shots, the Mustangs held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Stevenson will host its annual Alumni Game next Saturday before return to action following an 11-day layoff on October 22 at Hood.
