Caltabiano Cousins Lead Mustangs to First CAC Victory

Box score

FREDERICK, Md. - Stevenson University men's soccer cousins, senior Sal Caltabiano (Jarrettsville/Western Guilford (N.C.)) and junior Vinny Caltabiano (Lothian/Mount Saint Joseph) connected for the first time this season to key a 2-0 victory for the Mustangs over Hood Wednesday afternoon.

The win snapped a six-game winless streak in conference play for Stevenson (5-9-2, 1-4-1 CAC) and was its second shutout victory in the last four games.

By making four saves, senior Adam Wiatrowski (Baltimore/Patapsco) picked up his fourth win of the season in goal, three of which have been by shutout.

The Mustangs held a 20-9 edge in shots, but weren't able to break open a scoreless game until the 54th minute when senior Billy DePaola (Perry Hall/Towson Catholic) scored his second goal of the season off a rebound.

The goal not only gave Stevenson a 1-0 lead, but also ended the Mustangs' scoreless streak of 275:39, dating back to DePaulo's first goal of the season in the 48th minute of a 2-0 victory at Lancaster Bible on October 4.

Stevenson would add an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when the Caltabiano's connected from the left side. The tally was Sal Caltabiano's third goal of the season.

The Mustangs return home to face CAC foe Wesley on Saturday. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
