King's Lone Goal Stuns Fourth-Place Wesley, 1-0

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Sophomore Tyler King (Parkville/Calvert Hall) scored the game's only goal in the 22nd minute and the Stevenson University men's soccer team held off Wesley's second-half rally en route to a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon at the Caves Complex.
The win was the second-straight conference victory for the Mustangs (6-9-2, 2-4-1 CAC) and the second consecutive shutout.
Meanwhile, the loss was the second-straight CAC defeat for the Wolverines (10-5-2, 4-3-1 CAC) who had won 10 consecutive before losing at No. 2-ranked York (Pa.) on Wednesday.
Despite the loss, Wesley has secured the No. 4 seed and a home game in the 2008 CAC Men's Soccer Championship which begins next week.
Senior Adam Wiatrowski (Baltimore/Patapsco) picked up his sixth win of the season on Saturday and fourth by shutout. He made six key saves for the Mustangs, including one on Thomas Yolain inside the box in the 89th minute to preserve the one-goal lead.
King scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Kyle Baker (Mitchellville/Bowie) who dribbled the ball down the left side before crossing it into the box to King.
The assist ended a 13-game scoreless streak for Baker who hadn't scored since scoring on a penalty kick against McDaniel on September 3. In 17 games this season, he has totaled two goals and one assist for five points.
With Stevenson leading 1-0, freshman John Adamo (Glassboro, N.J./Washington Township) just missed his first goal of the season when hit the left post in the 33rd minute.
Stevenson was able to pick up its third win at home this season after withstanding a second-half barrage that saw Wesley outshoot the Mustangs, 13-3. However, Wiatrowski made four of his six saves in the half to keep the Wolverines at bay.
Stevenson concludes the 2008 season on Wednesday when it welcomes Gallaudet to the Caves Complex on Senior Day. Game time is at 3:30 p.m.
