OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer seniors Steve Hamilton (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) and Christopher Panian (Monkton, Md./John Carroll) combined for three points, but Albright's Vitali Zaluha scored two goals including the game winner to defeat the Mustangs, 3-2 on Senior Day Saturday at Mustang Stadium.
The loss marks the Mustangs (7-9-2, 2-4-1 MAC) first at home this season and fourth out of their last five.
Albright (6-9-2, 2-4-1 MAC) jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead on late goals by Zaluha and Tyler Waters, 5:06 apart. Zalahu scored his team leading eighth goal of the season, on a blast from inside the box, followed by a rebound shot and score from Waters.
Early in the second half, sophomore Ryan Callinan (Edison, N.J./Saint Joseph's) kept the deficit at two, with a save on a point blank shot inside the six-yard box.
Hamilton got Stevenson on the board with his third goal of the season off an assist from junior Yianni Sarioglou (Perry Hall, Md./Calvert Hall).
Zaluha pushed the Lions lead back to two on a free kick 40 yards out with 24:38 remaining in the second half. Just 45 seconds later, Sarioglou cut the deficit back to one on an assist from Panian.
Callian finished with seven saves while his counterpart Austin Aldinger had three.
The Mustangs outshot Albright 21-16, including 13-5 in the second half, while also holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
In pregame ceremonies the Mustangs honored seniors Hamilton, Panian, Alex Zeidler (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown), Jake Bond (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Nico Garcia (Silver Spring, Md./Blake).
Stevenson will travel to face Hood in a Commonwealth Conference contest on Wednesday, October 30 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
