Medtart, Rosa Combine for Eight Points in Win Over Hood

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's soccer junior DR Medtart netted a pair of goals while freshman James Rosa recorded a goal and two assists as the Mustangs posted a 3-2 MAC Commonwealth victory over Hood Tuesday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • The Blazers (7-4-1, 1-3 MAC Commonwealth) had the first shot of the game, coming in the 10th minute, as Ricky Salgado fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box high.
  • Down the other end, sophomore Tariq Lee flicked a header from classmate Dylan Holy but it slowly rolled to goalkeeper Danny Castillo.
  • Hood found the back of the net at the 10:18 mark as Alain Shekanino flicked a header to the back post on a long throw-in from AJ Lewis.
  • In the 16th minute, freshman Diego Guerrero played a ball across the box to classmate Jason Kahan but his shot off the outside of his foot was saved by Castillo.
  • After another long throw-in by the Blazers, Brandon Feuerherd had back-to-back headers on net with the first one saved by freshman Matt Stellitano before Medtart saved the second shot off the line.
  • The Mustangs (8-5, 2-2 MAC Commonwealth) tied the game at 1-1 in the 21st minute as Guerrero sent in a cross from the end line that was flicked towards the back post by Lee before Rosa headed it home for his third goal of the season.

  • Holy nearly had his fifth goal of the season in the opening minutes of the second half as he headed a long throw-in from sophomore Evan Joseph but it was saved by Castillo.
  • In the 52nd minute, Castillo made a diving save on a header by Lee just outside the six-yard box after a cross by Medtart.
  • Lee fired another shot on goal in the 57th minute, cutting back to beat his defender before sending a low left-footed drive to Castillo.
  • Junior Gaige Robinson nearly gave the hosts a one-goal lead as his shot from the corner of the 18-yard box was tipped by Castillo over the crossbar.
  • In the 61st minute, Rosa played a corner kick low to Medtart who was running in from the midfield before Medtart fired a shot that hit off the crossbar.
  • On the ensuing corner kick, Castillo punched Rosa's cross before Medtart gained possession and fired a shot on the outside of his right foot that beat Castillo inside the near post.
  • Just 3:49 later, Shekanino sent a cross to the back post for Robert Ellerson who hit a volley into the back of the net.
  • The duo of Medtart and Rosa connected for a second time, this time coming in the 76th minute, as Rosa sent a low cross into the box that a Blazer defender could not clear, before Medtart hit a left-footed volley to the back of the net.
  • In the 83rd minute, Joseph's header went just wide of the post on cross from Medtart.

  • Stevenson outshot Hood, 21-14, while holding a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • The first half goal by the Blazers was just the fourth goal Stevenson has allowed in the first half this season.
  • It is the first career multi-goal game for Medtart who has a pair of multi-assist games this season.
  • For Rosa, it is his first multi-point game of the season.
  • Stellitano finished with eight saves while his counterpart, Castillo, had 10.
  • The Mustangs posted their second consecutive victory over Hood after the Blazers had won the previous three. Stevenson owns an, 11-3, all-time series record.
  • Stevenson improves to 7-3 at home this season, posting wins in five out of its last six matches at Mustang Stadium.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, October 13 when the Mustangs travel to Lebanon Valley for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 4:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home after a two-game road trip on Saturday, October 20 as the team hosts Alvernia on Senior Night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
