Mustangs Compete In Regional Tournament
Fredericksburg, VA - Four members of the men's tennis team competed this weekend at the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regionals at the University of Mary Washington. Over 25 of the top teams in the region sent players to compete including five nationally ranked top 25 teams.
Ryan Morse (Dover, NH/Dover) was VJC's only entrant into the main draw and lost in the first round to Haverford's Marc Adelberg 6-0 7-5. Morse then went on to lose in the first round of the consolation bracket to Jamie McCardell 6-1 6-2.
Ryan Woodring (Baltimore, MD/Eastern Tech) participated in the B2 singles event and lost his first round match to Giorgio Athans of Salisbury 6-3 6-1. Woodring then went to the consolation bracket where he lost to Pavel Hejsek of Dickinson 6-0 6-1.
Mark Allinson (Bel Air, MD/Fallston) was entered into the B4 singles draw and he fell in the first round to Jarrod Bogard of Methodist 6-1 6-3. Allinson went on to the consolation bracket where he lost to Jon Hand of King's College 6-3 6-3.
Playing in B6 singles Kevin Stamm (Mechanicsville, MD/Leonardtown) lost to Duff O'Connor of Cabrini 6-0 6-2. Stamm won his quarterfinal in the consolation bracket over Matthew Kral of Muhlenburg 4-6 7-5 10-7 and fell short in the semifinals to Colin Saunders of Bridgewater 6-2 6-2.
VJC's only doubles entry was Morse and Woodring playing in the B1 draw. They lost in the first round to the team of Tag McGurrin and Scott Melideo of Scranton then fell in the first round of consolation to Giorgio Athans and Sasha Felikson of Salisbury.
This ends VJC's fall season and they will begin their spring season on spring break at Hilton Head, SC against Augustana College on 3/3/08.
