WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Stevenson men's tennis team junior Anthony Carle (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) qualified for the quarterfinals in both singles and doubles to lead the Mustangs at the 2012 MAC Individual Championships at the Ralston Field Complex at Kirby Park on Saturday.
Carle defeated PT Romano of King's (Pa.) in straight sets at No. 3 singles, conceding only two games in the first set and four in the second.
After advancing to the quarterfinals, Carle was paired with the No. 1 seed in his bracket and suffered a loss in straight sets to Wilkes' Brendon Biachowski.
Carle teamed up with freshman Alex Molineiro (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) at No. 3 doubles and defeated the Misericordia duo of Tony Goodall and A.J. Grasso, 8-5. Carle and Molineiro fell to the No. 3 seed in the quarterfinals.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Robbie Baker (Glenwood, Md./Glenelg) defeated Albright's Ian Moore in straight sets in the round of 16, 6-3, 6-4. After advancing to the quarterfinals, he fell to the number one seed, Wilkes' Alex Makos.
Baker also teamed up with sophomore James Bishoff (York, Pa./York Catholic) at No. 1 doubles, but the pair fell in a close matchup in the round of 16 to Tony Bevevino and Jake Rohring of King's (Pa.), 8-6.
Senior Eric Belton (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) and freshman Conrad Ellis (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) advanced to the quarterfinal round at No. 2 doubles, defeating Lebanon Valley in the round of 16. The duo then fell to the No. 2 seed from Wilkes, Michael Krantz and Connor Peckham.
The championships conclude the fall season for the Mustangs. They resume action in the spring on March 3 when they face Randolph.
