STEVENSON, Md. - In the first match of the spring season, the men's tennis captain, Eric Belton (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) lead the Mustangs with the only singles win and a part in the only doubles win of the afternoon in a nonconference matchup.
Belton defeated Goucher's Cody Nelson at No. 6 singles in straight sets, without conceding a single game in the first set.
In doubles action, the other Mustang victory came at No. 3 doubles where Belton teamed up with freshman Peter Hoblitzell (Towson, Md./Towson). The duo combined to down Goucher's pair of Nelson and Seth Manfield, 8-0.
Two Mustangs, senior Nick Dunlap (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and junior Anthony Carle (Reisterstown, Md./Franklin) were able to take their opponents to three sets. Dunlap's match at No. 3 singles resulted in a mere two-game differential where he fell to Goucher's Pat Murnin in the third set, 7-5. Carle was defeated at No. 5 singles by Goucher's Seth Manfield after coming back from the first set to win the second, 6-2.
The Mustangs return to action March 21 where they take on the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland.
