Mustangs Drop Two CVC Contests Versus Thiel, No. 4 Juniata Saturday at Home

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson men's volleyball freshman Wesley Richardson (York, Pa./Central York) totaled 18 kills while junior Rob Kryger (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) added 17 as the Mustangs dropped two CVC contests Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium to Thiel and No. 4 Juniata.

The losses snapped a four-game winning streak for Stevenson (7-8, 1-2 CVC) who made its home debut this season and honored head coach Jeff Blake prior for winning his 100th career game on Friday, February 4 with a 3-1 win over Fontbonne.

Errors plaqued the Mustangs in their 25-23, 16-25, 18-25, 26-24, 12-15 loss to Thiel who was picked to finish fourth in the CVC Preseason Poll on December 23. Stevenson committed 52 total errors, including 36 attack errors as they posted a .150 hitting percentage.

The Mustangs also had seven service errors and five reception errors.

Richardson led Stevenson with a career-high 15 kills and posted a team-high .303 hitting percentage versus the Tomcats. High school teammate and freshman Kyle Wisener (York, Pa./Central York) added 13 kills while freshman John Crinion (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) had 12. Kryger has seven kills.

Stevenson took a 1-0 lead after totaling 20 kills and a .444 hitting percentage in the first set, but it had 20 kills and 20 errors over the next two in falling behind, 2-1.

The game fetaured 37 ties and 13 lead changes, including 11 and four in the fourth set as the Mustangs tied the game at 2-2 with a two-point victory.

Freshman David Moler (York, Pa./Central York) finished with 11 digs and 57 assists, three shy of his career-high set versus Endicott on February 12. Sophomore Adam Thatcher (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) had a team-high 15 digs while freshman Patrick Devine (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) addd 11.

Dante McCoy led Thiel (12-8, 2-1 CVC) with 25 kills. Ian Phillips had 19 digs.

Kryger led Stevenson with 10 kills versus Juniata, but the team was held to just 26 kills while committing 23 attack errors for a .051 hitting percentage in a 18-25, 15-25, 13-25 loss.

The Eagles (16-6, 4-0 CVC) recorded 16 total blocks and 40 digs and Ross Madden and Ben Wolff totaled 25 of Juniata's 41 kills as they totaled 13 and 12, respectively. John Almquist had 11 digs and 30 assists while Ben Crouse also had 11 digs. Paul Kuhn had five blocks and Paul Ejups had four.

Moler had 22 assists and was one of four players with five digs for the Mustangs.

Stevenson continues CVC play on Wednesday, March 7 when it travels to Philadelphia Biblical. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
