LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Stevenson men's volleyball team cracked the top 10 of the AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll for the first time in school history on Tuesday as the Mustangs received 93 points, tying them for 10th with Vassar.
Stevenson has been ranked in the national poll five consecutive weeks, achieving the program's first-ever national ranking on February 12 at No. 12 before moving up to No. 11 on February 26. The Mustangs also received votes in the first two polls of the season.
The Mustangs went 1-1 last week with the program's first-ever win over No. 3 Juniata on Friday at Eastern Mennonite, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 15-8. The Eagles fell to No. 4 in this week's poll.
Eleven teams on Stevenson's 2013 schedule are ranked in this week's AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Coaches Poll. In addition to No. 4 Juniata, the Mustangs also play No. 3 Carthage, No. 5 UC Santa Cruz, No. 6 SUNY New Paltz, No. 7 Stevens, No. 8 NYU, No. 9 Baruch, No. 10 Vassar, No. 13 Elmira, No. 14 MIT and No. 15 Rivier.
Stevenson, who is 5-5 against ranked teams this season, also plays Emmanuel who is receiving votes.
The Mustangs are scheduled to play a total of 17 games against ranked opponents this season, including this Friday and Saturday when they play two games each versus No. 8 NYU and No. 5 UC Santa Cruz.
In the meantime, Stevenson hosts a CVC East Division contest versus Eastern Mennonite tonight at Owings Mills Gymnasium beginning at 7:00 p.m. It marks just the second game at home for Stevenson this season and first since February 2 when it defeated Cairn, 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 28-26.
