Softball Goes 1-1 on Day 1 of Spring Break
Myrtle Beach, SC - The Mustangs started their Spring Break going 1-1 today, falling to Gettysburg, 1-0, in the first game and defeating Juniata, 5-3, in the second.
The first game remained scoreless until the bottom of the 5th
inning when Gettysburg earned the only run of the game. The
errorless Mustangs had three hits to Gettysburg's five.
Sarah Moelter (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) threw 75
pitches allowing only one earned run, five hits, and three
strikeouts. This was Moelter's first loss of the
season. Offensively, Emily Roper (Baltimore,
MD/Western Tech) and Lindsay Mueller (Fallston,
MD/Fallston) each went 1 for 3. Jessica
Bandzwolek (Fallston, MD/Fallston) went 1 for 3 with a
double.
The Mustangs turned up the heat during the second game to defeat Juniata. Jessica O'Neill (Columbia, MD/Howard) started the game and pitched two earned runs, allowed six hits, and two strikeouts. Julianne Roper (Baltimore, MD/Western Tech) came in the 4th inning and got her first collegiate win. Roper did not allow any runs and threw one strikeout and only allowed five hits.
At bat, Emily Roper went 1 for 2 with an RBI; Laura Bedgar (Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) went 1 for 3; Liz Penniman (Dayton, MD/Glenelg) went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI; Sam Rice (Columbia, MD/Howard) went 1 for 3; O'Neill went 1 for 4 with an RBI; and Mueller went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
The Mustangs return to the fields tomorrow to take on Elizabethtown and Green Mountain College.
